Mary McCormick - American Woman
Mary McCormick

Sir Anthony Van Dyck - Owner by Sydney Frankel - Trained by Carolyn BlandMary began vaulting in her hometown of Sonoma, CA with the Tambourine Vaulters in 1992. She quickly fell in love with the sport and became an avid competitor. In 1996, she got her first taste of International Competition when she joined the Woodside Vaulters A-Team and represented the United States at the World Vaulting Championships. She and her WV teammates also represented the US at the European Championships the following year.

After a 4 year hiatus from competitive vaulting, Mary returned to the arena in 2001. She was living in Nashville, TN and started the states first vaulting team, the Silver Star Vaulters. Starting a vaulting club was a challenging yet deeply motivating endeavor. The success of Silver Star inspired Mary to take it to the next level and aim for representing her country again; this time as an individual at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

In order to realize this dream, Mary needed the resources to make it happen. At the close of 2004 she packed up what she could haul (including her beloved Quarter Horse, Star) and headed west to California. Once she arrived back in the Golden State, Mary began training on Sir Anthony Van Dyck (owned by Sydney Frankel) under the guidance of the legendary coach Emma Seely. She did indeed realize her dream of representing the US in Aachen, and then went on to compete at the 2008 World Championships and the 2010 World Equestrian Games as well. She has won numerous honors including the 2007, 2010, and 2011 US National Championship and the 2009 and 2011 USEF Vaulter of the Year Award.

When you ask her why she loves vaulting, she'll tell you: "I love horses, and for me, there is no better way to know them than through the harmony of vaulting. When I'm working with my horse and he's giving me power through his balance and stride, I feel like I am flying - like I could do anything. It's beautiful."
